Eascote 3s, who have become familiar foes over the last year were welcomed to BRN. Again we put out a youthful side with five colts and we produced a solid first half performance, leading 2-0 courtesy of a deflected corner from Robbie Scragg and a penalty stroke form Luke Piper. It was nice to see Robbie 'remembering' where to be on the corner and more importantly scoring for the second game in a row. Luke continued his run of goal scoring, even if he did have to beg the skipper to take the stroke! Jonny produced a string of saves from short corners, with one outstanding effort from a drag heading for the top corner. I felt we probably shaded the first half and knowing that we had 14 to their 11 we should have put our foot to the floor in the second. However Eastcote, who were down to 10 on a couple of occasions due to a card and illness seemed the side with more energy and creativity. They scored with 15 minutes to go when we gave the ball away while in the middle of a substitution and they created a 2 on 1 with the keeper and finished calmly. We failed to get hold of the ball and sat deep with Eastcote creating lots of pressure, with Jonny coming to the rescue on several occasions, to deservedly win the man of the match. A tightly fought contest and we managed to hold on, which showed our resilience as a team.
Many thanks to the umpires and Jan for the teas.
