On Saturday, Hawks V's were away against Henley. The match began with a positive attack on the ball against the Henley push back. The pressure soon paid off and Hawks gained possession. The play was good and there was some clean passing, but nothing resulted from a crowded D.
On the hit out the Henley back smashed it down the pitch back to a Hawks player with some constructive passing from the back, then to the half and on to Lotty's stick she was able to skilfully dribble down to the base line and with a strong hit put it across the D where Blanche ran in to position and knocked it into the goal.
Not wanting to let up the Hawk's team attacked again this time unsuccessfully, unfortunately Blanche was unable to convert this time due to a slippery stick!
The rain kept coming and Hawks did well to keep the majority of the possession. They seized the opportunity to ensure they got it into the goal. A great cross from Sherene in to the D landed Blanche another opportunity to get the ball in the back of the net.
Henley weren't yet defeated, they came back strong with a series of good passes, but some strong defending from Becky and Susan kept a clean sweep in the first half.
On the counter-attack Sherene managed to sneak in a 3rd goal before the half time whistle.
The second half was a Hawks push back. A shaky start lead to a threatening Henley team who soon intercepted the ball, they made some great runs but were unable to take convert a goal.
Hawks had some great constructive play after this point and managed to get a strike on goal which was defended by a Henley foot. The umpire called a flick to commence and Lotty gallantly stepped up to the mark.
Generously Lotty decided to boost the young keeper of the opposition and did not hit the back of the net.
But this did not phase the cohesive Hawks side. Both Sandra and Rachel scored from open play in consecutive minutes leaving Hawks with a confident 5-0 win to start the year.
MOM - Rachel Potter.
