The Ladies 3’s restarted their season against top of the table Reading. Following a motivational team talk from captain Lizzie Siese and Mel Carrier delivering the tactics for the game, the team were fired up and ready for the challenge. The game started at a high pace and the teams were evenly matched. Hawks stuck to their game plan and broke through the Reading press with ease on a number of occasions. Within the first 20 minutes it was end to end with Hawks creating the most clear cut chances with Kath Crook, Beth Nagle and Lizzie Siese linking up well. Becca Canon showed great determination and energy tackling well in defence and then attacking at pace at the other end of the pitch. Reading had a few shots on goal and GK and player of the match, Olivia Clark made some excellent saves to keep Reading at bay. The Ladies 3’s had a 5 minute ‘blip’ conceding two goals in quick succession.
Despite being 2-0 down at half time the squad were positive about the performance in the first half. The work rate and determination was unquestionable with everyone working hard for each other. The second half saw more of the same end to end hockey. Hawks were strong defensively and Reading only had one real chance which Olivia quickly closed down.
Overall it was a positive performance and if Hawks can maintain that level of hockey for the rest of the season they will have every reason to party at the dinner dance!
