The Ladies 2s were very excited to get involved in their first friendly after the Christmas break. After losing 5-0 to Epsom 1s in the league, Hawks were very keen to go and put on a good performance.
Despite the minging weather conditions, Hawks were raring to go from the first whistle particularly after Andy Clark had told the 2s to treat this like a normal league game and not wait until the 23rd January when everything starts off again.
This wisdom from Andy Clark hit home with the ladies 2s and for the first 17 minutes of the 1st 20 minute period, Hawks created so many chances and were very unlucky not to convert any of them. The remaining 3 minutes of the 1st period were not as positive, the team switched off and did not pick up players which allowed Epsom to get into the D for the first time and they ended up scoring.
With the score at 1-0 and after some advice from Andy, the 2s were determined to get back involved very quickly. Lex scored Hawks' first goal with a lovely finish into the bottom left hand corner of the goal. The 2s were not satisfied with the score at 1-1 and continued to play some lovely hockey in all areas of the pitch. Jane then stepped up, showing some great individual skills in Epsom's D and scored over the keeper's head. Not long after, Abi picked up the ball at the top of the D and showed great composure to get past 3 Epsom players. Abi got a shot on target, then lost her balance but Emma Hunter then received the ball and calmly slipped the ball over both Abi and the Epsom GK.
With the score at 3-1, Hawks were able to move the ball around and continued to improve. Epsom did not give up and kept Hawks on their toes throughout the game but man of the match, Claire Collis made some great tackles and kept everything under control. The final score was 3-1 and the Ladies 2s look forward to playing a friendly against Oxford 1s on Sunday 10th January.
