Right from the start Hawks settled into a confident passing game with Ollie Dunn leading by example. The midfield of Laurie Cooke, Will Smith, John Black Jnr and Bradley Fogden dominated and they rewards were 2 goals from Tim Chilvers.
At this point Reading raised their game and the tackling became more intense as they pressed across the pitch. Hawks could well have reflected on earlier missed chances and good goal keeping by the Reading goal keeper when 2 goals were conceded to make it 2-2.
However this team is made of stern stuff and a sublime move down the right channel with Simon White creating space and finding O J Webb on the by line. O J calmly looked up and found John Black Jnr who finished superbly,
At this point Hawks looked a little nervous and despite excellent work by Ollie Dunn, assisted by Roger Dunn kept Reading at bay. A lack of concentration at the top of the D led to a short corner and George Aylard had no chance as the ball was slammed home.
George Aylard now needed to marshall the defence and Charlie Warner and Dan Evans kept it tight on the flanks. Hawks again showed their character and a quick break secured a short corner which saw Tim Chilvers shot deflected over the Reading man of the match goal keeper to secure the win.
Ollie Dunn picked up Man of the Match for his assured performance and the platform bodes well when the league campaign resumes in January.
