The Mens 4s travelled to the pagoda at Milton Keynes in expectation of a tough match against the team directly below them, and so it proved. Playing in foul weather, the 4s welcomed Ed Wilkinson to the team and he performed well in trying circumstances and hopefully we will see more of him; a bit of a step up, but he has the skills to thrive. In truth, it was a game played with no midfields, as both teams bypassed the middle of the park as Hawks launched a barrage of aerials to our front three and the Dons hit us on the break. Although we had a series of short corners early on, they weren't fruitful and MK hit us with a tap in from a broken down short corner. In truth, they could have scored a few more, but they contrived to kick the ball rather than hit the back of the onion bag. We played better than in previous games, but don't seem to be able to find the finishing required to take games away from the opposition. Robbie and Jonny F are settling in well at the back and both played well and Chris up front was standout for his tireless running. However, early in the second half, the Keynsians went two up hitting us again on the break and they slotted a neat pass behind our defence to allow their striker to slot home. The two appointed umpires had a tough time as the game got increasingly frazzled, but Hawks hit back with 5 minutes to go as Brett stole a march up front and put Jasper in to take the deficit to one. Hawks pressed and got a last gasp short corner, but there was to be no miraculous comeback, as Jasper skewed his shot wide. A second defeat for the 4s then and although skipper Dave thought the opposition were poor, I felt they just shaded it. We remain fourth in the league, with a massive game against Newbury next Saturday.
