After the disappointment of the previous week, the men's 2s travelled to Trojans welcoming Hargreaves and Sobey into the fold. Keen to put in a much improved performance, Hawks started well, pressing the Trojans back line from the off. Within the first 90 second, Hawks had their first clear chance. The high press caused a turnover high up the pitch and after good work from shipperley he found himself with just the keeper to beat on his backhand, but blazed it over the bar. Trojans gathered the ball, and 15 seconds later went 1 up with a superb upright reverse finish. Hawks went from almost going 1 up to 1 down in the blink of an eye. Undeterred Hawks picked themselves up and played some good fast paced hockey with the opposition also doing the same. 10 minutes later Hawks were 2 down, a double turnover in the 25 resulted in a clinical pass and finish from Trojans. Again Hawks picked themselves up, winning their first corner which was clinically despatched by Andrews.
before the half was over Hawks had another corner which missed the left post by a whisker. 2-1 at half time but real belief that this game was there for the taking.
the second half was again a fast free flowing affair, with chances for both teams. A good save off another Andrews flick from the Trojans keeper and Hargreaves in the Hawks net making important saves as well. As the half went on both sides knew the next goal would be crucial and unfortunately it went to Trojans. Again Hawks turned the ball over in the wrong area of the pitch and 3 passes later the ball was past Hargreaves. 3-1 and that's how it finished.
a disappointing result but a much improved performance. Hawks now look forward to next week at home to Horsham, desperate to put a performance and result together.
MOM Charlie shipperley. Apparently.
