On Saturday the Ladies 2’s were determined to end their losing streak and come out with a win from their 12 o’clock match against Brighton and Hove ladies 1’s. Hawks once again started well, maintaining possession and putting their skills into practice, when finally they broke through with a short corner. Despite missing on the initial strike, Jane Lewis was there for the rebound; the ball finding its way into the side netting. 1-0 to hawks!
Hawks maintained their lead throughout the half, even with some retaliation from the opposition who were a threat coming forward, however a composed and drilled defensive line, of Claire, Georgia, April, Olivia and Lisa managed to keep them out for a positive end to the first half.
After positive and motivational chat from Diz, Bex, Andy and Sue Clark at half time, Hawks started the 2nd half determined to keep the score line in their favour. Despite numerous short corners and relentless work in the midfield from Kara and Helen, Hawks struggled to score again. But Hawks still looked the stronger side, and a speedy threat going forward with all the inners and forwards playing some lovely hockey. There were many narrow misses for Hawks, and chances for Brighton and Hove with man of the Olivia Clark making save after save. But the Ladies 2s held strong even while defending two late short corners.
The final score 1-0 to hawks! Finally the win all the Ladies 2’s needed and deserved going into next week’s game tough against Spencer, where hopefully the new winning streak will continue.
