Seven is the magic number for Ladies' 4s

Ladies' 4s 7 - 2 Gerrards Cross Ladies 1s

For our 6th game of the season, we were unsure what to expect from Gerrard's cross 1st team. With some good and surprising results under their belt, we didn't want to underestimate them.

The sandy and weathered pitch could have slowed us down or hindered our start, but as always we started strong, with the ball hardly leaving our attacking half.

Our patience was rewarded early on after Rebecca had a straight strike and found the backboard on a short corner. With our confidence high, Caz kept the ball on her stick, beat numerous defenders and then slipped it past the keeper to give us another goal. Not wanting to be left out, Sherene put her first goal away and then quickly her second by slapping it top left with so much power that the keeper had no chance.

With such a dominance on attacking, when Gerrard's cross did break we left ourselves exposed. Unsure of who we should be marking and with a tendency to flock to the ball, we left players free. Unfortunately, the opposition twice took advantage of our temporary lapse in concentration to put two goals past us. Half time whistle and it was 4-2 Hawks.

Disappointed not to have kept a clean sheet, we wanted more goals in the second half. Captain Catherine pushed for a new tactic of playing forward from a push back and it really allowed us to attack with conviction and keep possession.

We kept Gerrard's out of our half and attacked strongly. This resulted in Gerrard's putting all their players behind the ball and crowding the 25 for much of the second half. Nonetheless, Rebecca bagged a second goal and Pip found the net too. Cheered on my her daughter, Sherene then got a hatrick which puts her second only to Rebecca in the top scorers in our league!

Despite Sherene's hatrick and new team member Cat fitting in well, player of the match went to Emily who continuously used her pace and skill to take the ball from defence to attack.

After a much needed rest week, we will come out eager for 3 points and a clean sheet against Oxford!
