Men's 3's look promising in defeat

Men's 3s 3 - 5 Banbury Men's 2s
The men’s 3s were unlucky to lose a high quality encounter to table-toppers Banbury 2’s 5-3.
Hawks started well and soon took the lead through Ben Brearey after some fantastic work down the right by man of the match Aaron Leadbeater. This lead was doubled when a nice move involving Ed Baldock and Julian Easterbrook resulted in Jules smashing in from the top of the D. At this point a shock looked on the cards but, unsurprisingly, Banbury fought back and were level at half-time through two goals from short corners.
The start of the second half was always going to be an important period and so it proved. Moments after Hawks missed a fantastic chance to go back in front, a slip in defence lead to a breakaway goal for Banbury. Despite the positions in the table, Hawks continued to control the game but two further short corner goals made it 5-2 to Banbury. Hawks fought until the end of the match but were only able to pull one goal back through Alex Martin’s excellent finish.
Despite another loss, the 3's are beginning to show the promise that has been lacking in previous weeks. In the clubhouse after the game, the umpires questioned how it could be that we were bottom of the table based on the performance and was heard to say that he felt the standard from both teams was at least a league above the actual one we are in which is testament to the effort the team showed. With a game against Milton Keynes at home next weekend, the 3's look to push on from this performance and secure another 3 points.
