The Saga was such and it did involve the travel company as Phil Dunnill heads for sunny climbs with family for a cruise to the African Islands and Russ was in Sonning. Chris Billington returned from injury and took up his unfavoured central role. Giles Roper returned from somewhere and took up a defensive roles and with Steve Jones the three were excellent throughout.
With Steve Griffiths and John Kaluza feeding on scraps the game was one with not many chances and the two that fell in first half were shared between the sides. Richard Wilsdon pulled down their tall centre forward and the resultant weak stroke was saved. At the other end a Dave Hughes deflection from a Kaluza pass could not be turned in on the line by Steve Griffiths and from the rebound Ian Sobey's follow up hit the post from a near impossible angle.
The second half was again a tight affair with Guildford commanding the possession but not looking like scoring. The Falcons won a couple of short corners and from the second Ian Sobey's shot was deflected by the skipper Hughes and scrambled off the line. Whilst the Falcons were still bemoaning the decision Guildford went the other end and scored with the help of an attacking foot.
That was the sorry saga and the first league defeat of the season was done despite a valiant and hard working display (no fireworks!)
