Henley put out a strong team (according to our insider Chris) and we spent the first 10 minutes camped in our D repelling their attacks and with Tim Martin still on the way from Hawks we were struggling to get any foothold in the game. Once Tim arrived we began to look more dangerous and we managed to create some pressure leading to a good finish from Rob Manson to make it 1-0.
The game was hard fought in midfield with Henley edging the possession particularly in the 2nd half. We kept open play chances to the minimum although they had their share of short corners with Josh, on debut, saving well. At half time we felt that we probably needed to score again and we had some good chances on the break with Luke hitting the crossbar. But we sat back a little and eventually the pressure told as the skipper gave away a short corner and was lucky to stay on the pitch. The shot bumbled it way through Josh and Rob on the line and the game was on with 10 minutes to go. We hit Henley on the break and Nathan finished a good passing move at the far post. We held on for the last few minutes to gain three valuable points.
We welcomed some new and old players this week, with Tim and Jonny giving fine performances and Josh standing out in goal. Man of the match shared between Josh and Tim Webster, even though he felt he needed a rest at half time and I had to text his girlfriend, via my daughter, to see if he could play!
