Despite the miserable weather the Ladies 2’s were excited for their game against Teddington 1’s. Hawks had a good start and defended well against their opposition matching their intensity across the pitch. However a slight lack of concentration and an interesting call from the umpires led to a penalty flick for Teddington. Fortunately Linda Billington made an amazing save to keep the score at 0-0.
There were some great passages of play from Hawks who passed the ball quickly around the pitch creating some good chances in the attacking third. However the physicality of Teddington proved too much for the Ladies 2’s at times and by halftime Hawks were down by 2 goals.
Hawks came out fighting in the second half with some good transferring and communication in defence, which kept the Teddington attacks at bay. More drama occurred when a penalty stroke was awarded to Hawks in the 49th minute. Helen Nicholson kept her composure and slotted the ball into the goal making the score 2-1.
Man of the match Georgia Perkins displayed her usual skilful ways and great composure all over the pitch. Hawks kept pushing until the final whistle but didn’t manage to equalize. Overall the Ladies 2’s gave themselves too much to do by conceding 2 goals and didn’t take advantage of attacking opportunities. However it was a big step in the right direction for the side who face London Wayfarers in 2 weeks’ time.
