Hello. Rumour Has It that Bicester 1s were just one place below the Mighty Oxford Hawks Ladies 3s. We arrived at Cooper School, with a Skyfall of rain descending upon us. We set off on our warm up, Chasing Pavements and slippery tennis courts.
The whistle went and Hawks dominated from the start and were camped within the Bicester 25. The first goal came from a side-line pass from Nicky, through to Katie and then Captain Lizzie slotted the ball home. We need Someone LikeYou Lizzie!
Birthday girl Olivia scored goal number 2 from a rebound with a confidence which would make us think that she was 19.The third goal was scored by the One and Only Beth Nagle in a third consecutive short corner. Goal number 4 was also from a short corner, a “ping pong” effort – Nicky to Lizzie to Rosie to Lizzie to Olivia. I’m so pleased someone wrote this down for me. Very helpful and I will Take it All.
At half time, we were 4-0 up. Bicester started the second half well, hoping for some Hometown Glory and Hawks were left hoping that it wouldn’t mean that Bicester were Turning Tables in the next 35 minutes. Some calm and self-assured defending from Apples and Emily Taylor allowed Hawks to settle back into the game.
Evelyn wasn’t allowed to be a Daydreamer either, having to make a few sliding saves and Rolling in the D[eep] to stop the Bicester attackers from scoring. She must have thought that she was 21 again. After about 15 minutes of stalemate, Hawks regained their first half form and began to Set Fire to the Rain. Gabs scored a fantastic goal from the top of the D. We’re Crazy For You Gabs!
Some of the hockey wasn’t pretty; goal number 6 came from a real goal mouth scramble but Beth, once again, was there to finish with precision.
The 7th goal came from an unfortunate mistake from a Bicester hit out. Lizzie was there to intercept, she passed the ball to Beth who unselfishly “bounced” the ball back to her captain to claim her second. That poor defender must have thought that that mistake would Melt My Heart to Stone.
Lizzie was clearly thinking” I’ll be waiting for my hat-trick” and she didn’t have long to wait. Once again, the assist came from Beth Nagle.
Lucy and Kath weren’t given a Cold Shoulder by their former team mates at Bicester – far from it. In the pub after the game there was lots of reminiscing of past seasons and mutual friends and club mates. Don’t You Remember Michelle Dexter and Charlie Porter?
MOM – 3 way tie between Clare “Apples” King, Olivia “birthday girl” Strickland and Emily “the wall” Taylor.
