Classy Hawks 4s put thirteen past struggling Staines

17 October 2015, 13:00, Banbury Road North (Top)

Men's 4s 13 - 0 Staines Men's 3s

It would appear there are worrying times at Staines HC – last week prior to our game we saw their 2s beaten 13-1 and on Saturday we played their 3s and won 13-0. It gave us no real pleasure in this one-sided affair and it was a total mismatch, with the opposition getting into our D just the once during 70 minutes, reducing keeper Atkins a spectator … mostly of the game on the adjacent pitch of the Mens 2s against the wealthy Holcombites. The 4s had a wealth of riches at their disposal, welcoming back Pablo with a nice scar from his recent duelling incident and three classy debutants in Charlie Plumptre, Luke Piper and Alex Martin, who all performed well on their first outing for us. Also back was Rob Manson, fresh from a recent trip to the Falklands and it was great to have him back in the fold and he had a busy game. An ever changing cast saw an interesting half back line of Brett and Robbie, but they took to their defensive roles like the proverbial ducks to water. Alex managed to bag four goals and Luke two, including one amazing flick from the edge of the D, and the 4s managed to keep their tempo throughout the match, despite the limitations of the bare 11 from Staines, who battled on manfully, in particular their keeper who still had a good game. It appears the 4s have a good blend of youth and experience and we just need to get the right mix of players between the 3s, 4s and 5s for all three teams to prosper this season.
