It was a debut in the O35s cup for Hawks ladies which ended in victory.

The teams arrived at St. Edwards not quite knowing what to expect but we knew we could out number our opposition with our strong squad of 16. A number of players were making their first appearance in masters’ hockey but age is just a number. With free flowing hockey from the first whistle, it looked like the team had played together for years.  Apples and Claire Collis mopped everything up at the back, and if the defence was breached Linda Billington stood in their way and she wasn’t going to be beaten. Switching through Caro Harris and Henri Coles in the middle brought riches on both the left and right and it wasn’t long until the first goal was scored. With some smart hockey down the right, Kelly Fogden and Clare Pritchard linked well, and the ball was hammered in to the circle and eventually found its way to the far post where Linda Phillips slotted it in. The second followed quickly, with Sherene Butler roofing it passed the advancing goal keeper. 2-0 up at half time we wanted more. With a big squad, and with the opposition only managing the bare 11, Hawks used the width and height well in the second half but were unable to add to the score with the opposition’s goal keeper making some great saves.

We now wait to hear who we have drawn in the next round on 8th November.
