A narrow home win for the Eagles. The first home game of the season and a lovely sunny day spirits were soaring. The warm up was trainer more chat than anything else and Eastcote started strongly taking us a bit by surprise. So it was that we went a goal down early on , well taken by Clare Strickland, an Eagle stepping in to help the opposition out!
It remained 1-0 at half time with the Eagles being dominated in midfield and not being able to retain possession for any length of time. A tactical change at half time and the balance of ay started to shift. An early equaliser by Jacqui Barlow from a short corner was welcomed, but it wasn't long before we found ourselves 2-1 down. Rallying again and breaking quickly from defence Emma Forrester found herself one on one with the keeper, and despite close attention form the keeper kept her cool to even the scores.
Legs were becoming tired on both sides and it was Hawks who benefitted in the end scoring a third with about 10 minutes to go. This time from a short corner and scored by Rebecca Black.
An impressive reflex save off the post by Nicola Duxbury meant the victory was taken by Eagles. It was a most enjoyable game all round.
The dedication of the Eagles was shown by Rachel playing having run the half marathon in the morning, Jenni who had done a 10 mile training run before playing, and Dizzy and Linda who played between Hawks junior sessions and JDC that meant they were at the club and busy from 9am to 7pm.
Thanks Jan for teas, Emma for the cake, and Charlie and Marianne for umpiring. Thanks also too for Claire, Bella and Jan for turning out for Eastcote!
