This week the Ladies 3s team travelled the short distance to the Oxford Brookes Sports Centre to face Oxford Hockey Club Ladies 2s. The game started really well with both sides playing some strong attacking hockey. Hawks looked particularly strong going forward and we had a couple of early chances which we were unlucky not to convert. The link up play between the defence, midfield and forwards was very good and we were able to move the ball around much better, meaning we escaped Oxford’s defensive efforts. We were all over Oxford throughout the first half yet a temporary lapse in concentration meant we went into half time 1-0 down.
With a really positive team talk from captain Lizzie Siese, we went back out for the second half convinced that we could turn the game around. Some great early saves from goalkeeper Linda meant we put a lot of pressure on Oxford in the second half but sadly we lacked the clinical finishing touch needed to convert our opportunities.
Some great work in the midfield between Kate, Gabs and Saskia meant we had a number of opportunities going forward and this is certainly something which we can take forward into next week’s game as it was really positive.
A few unlucky decisions meant the final score was a 4-0 loss, however the way we played in the first 20 minutes of the game was absolutely outstanding and a great positive to take away from the game. Although a little disheartened at the final result, we will go into next Saturday’s game full of confidence that our hard work in training will bring us the results we are looking for.
