LADIES 5 GET FIRST LEAGUE MATCH WIN

19 September 2015

Ladies' 5s 3 - 2 Bicester Ladies' 2s

However, the younger girls ready and raring to go!Nonetheless, we started with great momentum, pushing forward from the first whistle. Having the majority of the possession and really wanting a goal, we did well not to get frustrated when it didn’t come immediately.

A lovely ball down the left line from Emma F allowed Emma M to pick up the ball, quickly beat her defender and then get the shot off on goal to put us 1-0 up. We settled and began to play some great hockey, notably some lovely balls and triangles from our half backs and inners from Jane F and new player Helen. Following this, Giorgia and Maddie were unstoppable on the forward line, their confidence and pace meant they won numerous shorts and got some great shots off. Lotty’s experience to know to always go for the rebounds meant that when the goalie logged for the first strike, she was quick to quickly lift it over the keeper to put us 2-0 up. Maddie won a penalty stroke after the ball was stopped by a Bicester body on the line. Buffy made a strong flick but unfortunately the goalie managed to get a stick on the ball.

Pushing forward so hard left us a little exposed at times and Bicester were quick on the break but not a match for goalie Maya who was calm and confident in goal and made some excellent saves to keep our 2-0 lead at half time.

Both teams were now eager and tense and we began making things difficult for ourselves, with some silly mistakes and unforced errors. We didn’t track back as well as we should and Bicester were quick to seize their chance. Driving hard in to the D and shooting, Maya made the save but Bicester had a player waiting back post who managed to slot the ball over the line, 2-1. Our heads were down for the next 5 minutes and we lost some of our teamwork. Bicester now had a large crowd of supporters on the sidelines and this helped them to put another goal past us to equalise.

MoM was a tie between Maddie and Megan. Megan was declared the MoM for great work midfield.

Losing our lead definitely woke us up and with 15minutes left, we knew we could still get the win. As Bicester were elated with their equalisation goal, Giorgia made a huge run with the ball and a defender on her back, she made the strike from the left and Maddie was on the post and finished it off perfectly to put us 3-2 up. The final whistle blew and we had earnt our first 3 points in the new league. Lots to work on but a great start to the new season.
