Ladies' 4s 7 - 0 Wycombe Ladies 3s

This Saturday Oxford Hawks Ladies 4's took on Wycombe Ladies 3's. The weather was gorgeous and the team were fired up for the opening league match. Unfortunately we were missing our Captain, Catherine so the pressure was on not to let her down!

The game started fast with great pressure from Hawks. This resulted in a quick goal from Sheree Butler who scored from close range. A great drive along the back line by Sophie Bennett found Sheree perfectly positioned in from of goal, slotting in her second of the day - Hawks 2-0 up within 10 minutes of play.

Hawks remained on top during the first quarter, putting a lot of pressure on the Wycombe side. Further scoring opportunities were created but not converted. Pip Cantwell and Rebecca Black involved in a couple of close range chances and close encounters with the Wycombe goalkeeper! The flow of play then swung Wycombe's way and they created a few short corners, getting away a clean shot which Emily Dawes saved on the line. Hawks soon regained possession and attacked hard in the last 10 minutes of the first half. Both Olivia and Rowena came close to scoring while Sophie B continued to cause havoc in the attacking D. A Wycombe breakaway saw Linda Billington slide out to the edge of the D to cut off the attack.

Pip and Rebecca continued to work hard up front, winning corners and putting pressure on the Wycombe defence. After converging on a shot at goal Rebecca ended up Prostrate (again) on the goal line but somehow the ball refused to cross the goal line. Apparently the Wycombe keeper wasn't even a goal keeper but she seemed to do well keeping that ball out the back of the net! In the last few minutes a pass from Pip to Rebecca on the right wing was crossed to Caz who was perfectly positioned in the D but her first time shot went just wide. On the attack again, Caz rode a number of stick tackles on her way into the D, winning a short corner with 2 minutes to go. Jackie Barlow received and passed it right to Caz who scored with a clean strike
( Rebecca hoping to claim as it brushed her stick on the way through the keepers leg into the goal).

Half time - 3-0

A strong start from Hawks in the second half saw them have most of the possession. Wycombe were starting to get tired and we're wishing they had a sub. The 4th goal came from a thumping strike as Rebecca hit it cleanly from the top of the D, rattling the back board. Sophie B was rampant in the D, desperate to clinch a goal in her last match before heading off to Uni. Rowena picked up the ball in the centre of the pitch and drove into the D, her shot forcing a save from the Wycombe keeper.

Fifteen minutes in and Hawks went 5-0 up. Sheree bagged her hat trick by picking up a loose ball from the goalie's parried save from a Jac's shot, sending it goalward with a well connected strike. Another goal from Rebecca at 25 minutes took the score to 6-0. It took four passes to get the ball from the Hawks defence to the back of the Wycombe net. The ball went to Lissy Momen who was wide left, on to Olivia, then quickly to Jac's who picked out Rebecca on the right who creamed it into the backboard once more.

Finally Rowena Hearn rounded off the match with 5 minutes remaining. She drove in from outside the 22m line, eliminated two defenders before creating space for the shot from just inside the D - 7-0!!

Well played everyone.
