Oxford Hawks started their National League campaign with an impressive win over Trojans. Hawks opened the scoring with less than a minute on the clock with Abi Flory driving at pace down the left. She beat several defenders before crossing to Lucy Stewart who smashed the ball into the goal to give the home side the perfect start. Hawks continued to dominate, but were pegged back during some scrappy play when a Trojans striker finished from close range. However Hawks regained the lead with some brilliant play down the right, resulting in Becky Odlin showing great determination in front of goal, allowing Flory to slot home.
In the second half, a good direct ball from Sophie Carter found debutant Heather Francis whose deft touch beat the Trojans keeper. It wasn't all one way traffic however, and Hawks were grateful for Louisa Heathcote's brilliant goalline clearance to keep their two goal lead. Moments from the end, good team buildup play ended in Francis crossing to Jo Tolson who passed the ball into the open goal. A very positive league start for Oxford Hawks who face Isca next week at BRN.
