The Falcons took on the England Great Grand Master in a friendly at BRN to try and make up for their league game being cancelled the previous day. The Falcons despite looking a bit out of sorts took the lead through the skipper Dave Hughes who cleverly deflected a John Kaluza shot past the GGM keeper. He then promptly limped off to be replaced by John Black.
The Falcons held the lead until the second half mostly due to the fine keeping of Richard Wilsdon but eventually he was beaten when a wayward pass fell to the former GB Captain to slot home. The GGM took the lead with a close range shot but the Falcons began to play their best hockey and Russ Warner put Steve Griffiths clear with a one on one on the keeper and there would be only one winner as the Falcons leading scorer lifted his shot deftly over the onrushing keeper.
The Falcons pressed for a winner and a goal was disallowed as Paul Dunleavy lifted his shot at a short corner. The GGM took advantage of their fortune and scored when Richard Wilsdon failed to clear a bobbling shot.
The Falcons spent the last few minutes trying to level but could not convert any of the chances that fell their way.
Thanks to both umpires and all the players in what was a thoroughly enjoyable day.
