We welcomed local rivals Oxford to BRN in which a point would be enough to clinch the title. In truth we ran out comfortable winners 8-2, with Boots adding five to his large tally of goals this season and Brett netting his first hat trick of the year.
There was no amnesia this week from the skipper but I did have an evening out with Boots, Big Dog and Poults which has made it all a little sketchy.
The highlights included a neat deflection from Boots (or was it a miscontrol) from the top of the D which the keeper ushered into the net. Brett and Boots essentially took it in turns to set each other up and scored all 8 goals between them. Neil had one shot tipped onto the bar and there were numerous other chances throughout the game. Poults ran and ran again and Gary nearly added to his goal tally with a couple of chances. Jasper stretched his back on the side and James controlled it all from the back dictating play and telling us all where to be. Torbs filled in at the back and although not his favourite position did a great job. Big Dog nearly fell out with Jonny over the flick then realised we were leading 7-1 and as such it didn't really matter. Is there not a goalkeepers union, or perhaps tricks of the trade are easier to spot if you are one yourself?
MOM goes to Boots who scored five, although Brett and James get honourable mentions. One more game to go and lets hope their pitch is in a better state than we left it last time.
Great team effort, great season, third title in a row and fourth promotion. Not bad.....
