Three new Eagles Clare, Lucy and Kelly took flight today, and Linda appeared for the first time with her Goal keeping kit on. What a good game to start their Eagles experience. Top of the table Wycombe, undefeated and already champions of the South Masters league were confident as they stepped out to play. It was the Eagles who impressed first with lovely passing play, Kelly dancing through the defence and Lucy dominating in midfield. In full flight they were 3-0 up and almost a surprised as Wycombe to be so. However we knew Wycombe can never be underestimated and they were looking strong on the counter attack. It was 3-1 at half time after a short corner wasn't cleared well enough. With all to play for in the second half Wycombe came out strongly and caught the Eagles a little off guard. With Lucy flattened on the half way line a second goal was conceded, and still on the back foot the score was levelled at 3-3 after less than 10 minutes of the second half. Ruffled feathers back in place Eagles dominated possession again and it was their turn to score from a corner to go into the lead 4-3. The final quarter was fought competitively as legs became tired and both teams were digging deep. It was on another counter attack that Wycombe equalised with an impressive but fortuitous deflection.
Despite piling on the pressure at the end the Wycombe defence couldn't be broken down again and it was a point apiece at the final whistle. Goals from Kelly x 2, Emma and Clare we all enjoyed the game. A good way to end the league and happy anticipation for the O40s tournament to come.
