Oxford Hawks under 18 Girls produced a fantastic performance in their cup quarter final against East Grinstead on Sunday but it wasn’t quite enough to win them a place in finals weekend. Hawks were missing both Captain Georgia Perkins and Vice Captain Katie Cannon through injury and it was the visitors who went ahead very early on through a somewhat lucky goal. After that, it was a very open attacking game with great hockey from both sides but it was Hawks who had the better chances in the first half. East Grinstead came out strong after the half time break and after a spell of pressure scored a second but Hawks repeatedly threatened the East Grinstead goal and Lucy Millington pulled one back from a well worked penalty corner routine. As time went on, Hawks continued to look dangerous and the East Grinstead keeper was kept busy but despite a number of chances for the home team, it was East Grinstead who scored one more to make the final score 3-1.
Many thanks to all the supporters who came to watch and a huge well done to the players who represented their club so brilliantly.
