An earlish start for the L6s and the potential confusion as to venue. Where oh where was Deborah who is always on time? Dream girl Mel T was here, Mel H had been up at 6am to ice the triple layered carrot cake, Wendy had come the very short distance by car and Gail was there in her stylish specs – surely she wasn’t going to play in those? With a lucky 13 (Rachel Potter had decided to play some other unspeakable sport) Becky MW delivered the all-important team talk & decided we should bond with a warm-up. After the ritual limbering, we even tried out some short corners against GK Purdy who was in fine vocal form.
All seemed to be going well and we started play knowing everyone’s name and the sub arrangements. Oops, suddenly Sonning were a goal up. Fortunately that provided the required wake-up call and thanks to a well worked short corner routine, Sarah deflected in a goal to equalise. Hawks then dominated the game with some lovely passing and determined play. Another penalty corner and this time a clean strike by Maddie gave us the lead. The lovely L6s continued to work hard. Becky J, Gail, Zoe, and Kate in mid field, Wendy, Deborah, Mrs H & Purdy in defence, dream girl Mel, Maddie, Mrs MW, Ms Mann, Ms P up front.
Capt Becky decided on some tweaks at half-time but fortunately kept the paper work simple by just swapping the positions of the two Mels. Not sure we stuck to that on pitch but a 3rd goal came from some lovely passing and clean shot from Linda.
Well done to all and thanks to the two Hawks umpires.
