Last time Hawks played OG’s, double Olympian Tindall straight from the off, drove forward, wobbled past a static Hawks defence to win and convert a short corner. Saturday, Hawks started with the ball and what a difference. Within minutes the OG’s keeper had to make three saves from open play. Stott was commercial in the D, a Biggs drag flick produced a top save from the keeper. After sustaining 10 mins of pressure OG’s got themselves in the game, Ethan Chapman was deemed to be a little over zealous with a tackle just inside 25. Short corner awarded and a yellow card given to fall guy Si Robinson who admittedly looks very similar to Chapman. OG`’s did not score. OG’s created a few chances however they found MOM Hargraves in commanding form. League top scorer Tindall weaved a little magic, drifted left and slotted the ball back post. Half time Hawks 0 OG’s 1.
The second half was a bit of a blur. Rhodes DOD had a little tantrum and was awarded a yellow card to add to his green. Kit Cutter, Jack Biggs and the original Ethan Chapman were all awarded yellow cards. Hawks always looked as if they had goals in them. A move down the left, good work by Wilson found Cutter for a simple push in. With 10 minutes to go, OG’s were looking worried. Hargraves smothered a short corner the ball crept out from under him, some thrashing of sticks and the ball rolled into the Hawks goal. Within minutes another move down the left a certain goal only stopped by the OG’s keeper bundling Cutter off the ball. Yellow card for the keeper and a PF for Hawks. Will Phillips scored past Tindall who went in goal. With two minutes on the clock, last throw of the dice OG’s won a penalty of their own after a stick was checked in the D. Final score Hawks 2 OG’s 3.
A great performance against the top of the league team, full of effort, desire and will to win. Well done boys.
