This was a helter skelter game that saw Hawks go 2 up, then concede (give away more like..) two, the last a P flick conceded by mad dog Jonesy, and trickled over the line once saviour to be Jonny had committed the other way. 2-2 it looked like it would be at half time, then a lightning break by the young ones, Will Brotherton and Kiran Patel combining down the right wing to deliver a cross that not even Van Missie could miss.
The earlier goals were scored by Rob O showing his prowess at a short, and a sublime reverse stick slice by Steve Elliott.
The fourth was from a firm hit in by the busy Ashley which was cleverly deflected by Van Persie (name restored now..)
The second half saw Toby Mac come to the party with some cultured midfield play, and after linking with the energetic Brotherton and Spittles jnr, resulted in Archie slamming the ball through a thoughtful Van Persie past the surprised keeper.
Injuries to Will B and Ashley and a very suspect yellow for Kiran, meant that the remainder of the second half saw Wycombe claw two goals back, miss another 7 short corner opportunities, see Jonny make some great saves, and make the injured skipper watching get close to a heart attack. After the 6th short in a row, the umpires finally blew and HAwks had managed a much needed win and an excellent game of hockey from both sides.
Oldershaw junior was the other youngster on display and he ran his socks off at the back - Mike Image and Chair Higgins also put everything in to see the Mens 6's through.
Next week Oxford Home......
