On a rather chilly afternoon the Men’s 2nd XI ventured on their way to face Marlow’s 2nd X1, fresh off the back of wins against their nearest title challenges. Confidence was high with Good vibrations in the air but Hawks faced a dangerous opposition who managed to put two passed them earlier in the season.
Hawks notoriously Can’t get no satisfaction in the opening minutes of their games. However, this was not case with a Hawks moving the ball well and stretching the Marlow deference. With the forward line Rolling in the Deep, the ball made its way to Ben R who carried it from the baseline across the D to fire it home to take the lead. This was quickly followed up by anotherAce of Spades, from that man again, Ben R, to double the lead inside 10 minutes (2-0). Marlow then started pushing men forward and at times Hawks were Livin’ on a Prayer with Chris P making some fine saves suggesting that he was The man who can’t be moved. However, this was short lived as a penalty flick was awarded to Marlow which was converted to take the score to 2-1. Hawks went into half time with a lead but knowing they had to Shake it off and come out much stronger in the 2nd half.
This is exactly what happened with the 99 problems in the first half just a distance memory. Hawks were on the attack again creating a Purple Haze for the Marlow deference with no Blurred lines in communication goals quickly came with Ben W and Mark Crowley putting the game to bed. Don’t stop believing must have been ringing through Thomson’s head as he crashed home the 5th for Hawks to finally get his tally started for the season.
Shortless Wardy put in a brave performance but proving that no matter how much Uptown Funk you put into a game getting on the score sheet isn't all about the amount of Boom Boom Pow you put on a shot.
With shouts of Stand by your man the back four were able to close out the game to 5-1 earning three valuable points to remain top of the league.
