Last Saturday the Ladies 2's travelled to London ready for their first league match since Christmas. Hawks heads went down after conceding two goals within the first five minutes of the game. With encouragement from their captain, Hawks focussed on playing the passing game they had done so well the week before. There were patches of good play while Wayfarers continued to put pressure on. Half time and the score was 3-0.
In the second half Hawks were determined to test the Wayfarers defence. Their efforts were rewarded when Emma Hunter calmly slotted the ball into the corner of the goal, only to have the umpire give a short corner as the ball was crossing the line! Fortunately Hawks showed great composure as the ball was slipped left to Meg who found Claire on the far post, waiting to deflect the ball past the keeper. There was great work throughout the game from joint man of the match, Kathryn and Anna. Two of the wee'est ladies in the team handled the physicality of the game with no issues at all and played with great skill and speed throughout.
Lifted by their goal Hawks fought to get into the attacking D on a number of occasions and were unlucky not to be awarded a flick. A good performance in the last ten minutes however Hawks were unable to get the win. Final score 4-1 but the Ladies 2s look forward to a more consistent performance against Spencer this Saturday.
