Conference East side St Albans made the journey to Banbury Road North to face Oxford Hawks in their penultimate January friendly before the league restart on 7 Feb. Hawks started strongly, with Caro Harris commanding the defence well and Bex Oakes and Takara Haines bossing the midfield. The home side opened the scoring after 10 minutes with a good move down the right, culminating in Hie Sawyer skilfully beating her defender to drive forward and smash the ball into the goal from the edge of the area. They doubled their lead moments later when an early cross from Briony Anyon was well finished first time by centre forward Becky Odlin. However St Albans responded well and drove forwards, forcing Ria Male into a splendid save, however the opposition striker was on hand to put away the rebound.
In the second half Hawks regained their two goal margin again after 15 minutes, as Anyon crossed for Becky Hibbert who scrambled the ball over the line at the far post. Minutes later, player of the match Male was called upon again, this time making a world class reflex save to keep out St Albans. However the away side did get a goal back ten minutes from the end with a well struck straight strike from a penalty corner. But Hawks held on to their lead well and ran the clock down, a far improved performance on the previous week.
