Eurovision standards mean "Nil Points" for hard working Men's 6's

17 January 2015

Men's 6s 1 - 3 Eastcote Men's 5s

With the return of Phil Kynaston guesting, as well as promising debuts from Jamie Wells (luckily he hasn't picked up too much from Dad - Dave) and Alan Duncan, the team had a different look from normal. Heavily boosted by a great performance by Steve Jones at the back, HAwks were always in this game. In fact, even having lost, sxpirits were good until MR Kynaston decided to take a Eurovision tack at the man of the match deliberations and voted for his mate Mr Image....(who had actually played well) but the lack of a secret ballot made the choice very suss.

Still, back to the game - with only 12, and a number of not so young players (Skipper...Chair...Clarke...) it was always going to be hard work and the youthful Eastcote team always looked dangerous in attack. Two down at half time, a superb goal put HAwkss firmly back in the match, started by Spittles (yes!) with a great ball to Kynaston down the right, who put in a rocket across the D for VAn Missie suddenly to remember his real name  and slot in a cracking goal.

Chair Higgins also got a vote for man of the match, he had been in danger of a nosebleed by being asked to play inside forward, and his unorthodox goal hanging by the oppo D nearly resulted in an equaliser, until, unfortunately the attack broke down, and surprisingly, the HAwks defence became stretched....

Steve Jones was rightly picked as MoM, despite being firmly warned by the umpire for leaning too hard on a 4 foot tall 13 year old.

Next week we have OMT home - we lost 8-1 with a really scratch team, so hopefully the splitters will have returned refreshed - the league table is now a bit of a concern and a win is needed...
