The Falcons travelled to Oxted to play the much improved Moonshiners in a hard fought draw at Oxted school. The Falcons were without Bear Smith and Shane Lovett but included both Mark Crampton-Smith and Jonny Atkins - on the pitch - in a strong line up.
The Falcons had the early pressure and began to make inroads with the probing runs of Phil Dunnill and Russ Warner dictating the play. Despite the dominance Oxted created the best chance as one of their forwards shot wide when clear on the top of the D. The Falcons continued to push forward and Oxted were prepared to wait for chances on the break. Dave Hughes went close with a snap shot just wide of the post and just failed to turn in a cross from the excellent Jonny Atkins. The Falcons won several short corners but the Oxted keeper was equal to the Russ Warner shots.
The second half was much the same with Falcons looking to press forward and Oxted to feed off scraps, the game began to deteriorate as Oxted were prepared to break up the game with some aggressive block tackling and tempers flared as Oxted, against the run of play, scored from a short corner given for a foot by Jonny Atkins. The Falcons maintained that there was no foot involved but their protests were ignored. The Falcons were running out of time but with less than 10 minutes left Dave Hughes anticipated John kaluza's forward run and shot to dive and turn the ball past the hard worked Oxted keeper to score his 150th goal for the Falcons and save a point.
Jonny Atkins was named Man of the Match and the team would like to wish Chris Billington a happy 60th Birthday this coming Monday.
