Hawks knew they had to up game against a Wycombe side who had been having an indifferent season and were 4th.
Hawks started brightly creating opportunities, but Wycombe were able to create chances on the counter as Hawks were caught committing people high up the pitch. Hawks played their style and controlled much of the possession but it was Wycombe who broke the deadlock scoring on a break leaving a two on one which was converted.
Hawks continued to create chances and played the better hockey in the first half but went in behind.
Hawks knew they needed to start chasing the game and attacking with more purpose as the second half began. They did this well controlling possession and limiting Wycombe more than they had in the first. Wycombe were able to create a few opportunities, a controversial corner was given to Wycombe when Hawks still trailed. A top save from Price denied Wycombe's top scorer a great goal with a low stick save that was going in the bottom corner.
Hawks then applied more pressure that told having a short corner from Baz saved on the line, then an ensuing goal-line me-lay with MJ shovelling the ball over the line. This drew hawks level and gave them a chance to win the game now. Both teams battled hard to get the necessary D penetration to win the game. Ben Roe having the best chance for Hawks with seconds to go found himself with an open shot on his reverse stick which was just wide.
Hawks drew 1-1 but remained top on goal difference due to Oxford 1s draw, Eastcote could go top if they win by enough goals in a rescheduled fixture after Christmas.
