L4s move up to 2nd in the league after beating MK

29 November 2014, 10:30, Banbury Road North (Top)

Ladies' 4s 1 - 0 Milton Keynes Ladies 2s

A sunny Saturday morning saw Hawks Ladies 4s up against Milton Keynes 2s – a side second in the table, equal on points but above Hawks with a better goal difference…..

Hawks made a bright start with some excellent passing moves, and had they put away their chances, it would have made for a more relaxing game.  The MK defence held tight, showing composure on the ball. Caz finished an excellent passing move with a fierce shot that went just the wrong side of the post. Rebecca had a rush of enthusiasm when a more pragmatic approach might have yielded a better return…

After half time, Hawks continued to press. The defence, with April and Becky looking solid and Emily Munsey occasionally being called upon to make some excellent saves, never really looked troubled. Some good link up play between Gabs and Caroline, and Vicky, determined as ever, helped to achieve sustained pressure. Good work by Sophie B and Diz down the left almost resulted in a spectacular reverse stick deflection into the goal, but the frustration was starting to mount. Finally, the pressure paid off with a defensive deflection from a straight strike from a short corner (please note - not deflected enough not to count for fantasy league- mum) – relief all round! Hawks overall excellent team play held on for a well-deserved victory. Witney here we come…

Thank you to Vicky on the sideline, all the supporters who came, and to Laura and Rory for some quality umpiring.
