It wasn't looking too good on Thursday with people dropping out but we managed to convince Scraggy that some interval fitness would be good for ironman training, picked up Martin from London and welcomed Stephen Hudson from the 5's. So all was looking good and we even contributed to the Beaconsfield High School Fete, as we were charged for parking. I hope that Neil Biggs doesn't get any ideas.
Anyway amongst all this was a hockey match. We won 7-2 although in truth it didn't feel that we played as well as we can, or maybe that was just because I was playing at the back. The pitch is an old sand base, a little slow and at times our passing wasn't crisp enough and we turned the ball over too much. Martin Pickup controlled the middle and scored the pick (the joke wears thin after a while) of the goals with a sweetly struck backhand from the top of the D. Boots added another three to his tally from last week and Scraggy added one from 5 yards out, which is further out than he has scored from for years, apparently. Dave knocked one in from an inch. And not forgetting Tim with a well taken penalty stroke, which was good for my fantasy league team.
Gerrards Cross looked dangerous on the break, created a few chances and had a number of short corners, but generally we controlled the game and created more chances than the opposition. It was an important win to keep up the momentum we have gained since our opening day loss. Another crucial game next week against Wycombe who are on a bit of run themselves and sit only one place below us in the league.
Really difficult to pick a MOM but Tim Martin is in my fantasy league team....
