Goals a plenty for the Ladies 4s against Wokingham 2s!!!

22 November 2014, 15:00, Wokingham Hockey Club

Ladies' 4s 7 - 2 Wokingham Ladies 2s

Another strong squad gathered in the changing rooms ready to take on Wokingham and primed to continue playing positive proactive hockey and score lots of goals. Great intentions but the first half performance just wasn't good enough. Despite going ahead twice goals were quickly conceded again and the fast passing flowing hockey that we can play was only seen in glimpses. Highlights were the straight strike from a short corner by Caroline Batten to open the scoring  and the Black family combining for the second goal but it was a relief that we were 3-2 up at half time after Caroline Batten showed us again what a good player she is when she placed the ball into the corner of the goal.

A direct team talk from Catherine at half time and it proved to be a game of two halves! It wasn't long before the energy and attack translated into a goal from Gabs picking up a rebound from a short corner. A penalty flick awarded but not converted gave the team even more determination and it was Rebecca Black that led the team from then on to victory. First she popped the ball in on the near post then latched on to a cross from Emily after a slick 1:2 between her and Sophie D and finished her hat trick from a short corner straight strike. Stirling effort from Sophie B who hit the post and had numerous shots saved with no reward and strong running from Rowena also created many a chance. Although 4 goals were scored in the second half there were chances a plenty that didn't quite cross the line. There was excellent distribution and transfer through the midfield preventing any release for Wokingham and the defence were hardly troubled in the second half and even Dizzy appeared in the circle eager for a shot.

It was a close thing for man of the match with 2 goals and multiple chances created by Caroline Batten but the hattrick was rewarded with MOM this week with Rebecca having to cook the cake for next weekend.

An easy victory in the end after a bit of a sticky start.
