Oxford Hawks faced top of the table Slough in a top quality game at Banbury Road North. Both sides played at a high intensity right from the start, and Slough took the lead on 15 minutes when a Hawks attack broke down, allowing Slough to counter. Their centre forward kept her calm as she rounded keeper Ria Male and slotted the ball into the empty net. Hawks however responded brilliantly and good work from Becky Odlin released Lucy Millington who buried the ball into the corner of the goal with a clinical reverse stick strike. Slough almost took the lead again but a fantastic reflex save from Male kept the scores level. Moments later, Hawks won a penalty corner after good work from Jo Tolson on the left. Caro Harris finished the routine perfectly to give the home side the lead. Just seconds from halftime Slough levelled with a good strike from close range making the score 2-2 at the break.
In the second half Hawks continued to play some lovely hockey, but both defences had strong games and neither side could gain the advantage. As the half went on Slough began to take the upper hand, winning a number of penalty corners, but resolute defending from the home side kept the scores level and the final whistle blew ending an excellent game of hockey, much appreciated by the strong home support. Thanks to Evelyn Hargraves for the photos.
