One of the focus areas for the Ladies 2s has been getting a good start from the first whistle. Abi Flory did not disappoint when she scored another great goal from the top of the D, 4 minutes into the game.
With the score at 1-0, the Ladies 2s passed the ball really well and continued to create a lot of chances in Brighton & Hove's D. However Brighton looked really dangerous on the break and Lucy Aldred making her 2s debut, had to make a number of crucial tackles to keep the score at 1-0.With 10 minutes to go in the 1st half, Brighton drove into the Hawks D and struck the ball from the top D into the right hand corner of the goal. Anna Clark was really unlucky to have a lovely deflection past the Brighton keeper disallowed, but Hawks kept on working till the half time whistle went.
Brighton started well in the 2nd half and the Hawks defence had to work hard to keep the score at 1-1. Linda Billington was on hand to make a number of saves and man of the match, Lucy continued to make life difficult for the Brighton forwards.
Great distribution from the Hawks back four, Lucy, Sally Clark, Laura Scragg and Helen Nicholson, ensured that Hawks were able to get the ball quickly into the final third however the ladies 2s were unlucky not to convert any of their chances.
42 minutes into the game, Brighton scored a very similar goal to their first one, driving into the D and striking the ball into the left hand corner of the goal. This gave Hawks the kick they needed and they immediately got the ball into the Brighton D where Claire Werlinger converted this opportunity with a great finish from a slightly raised ball in the D.
Brighton were awarded a penalty corner with 12 minutes to go. They converted this chance and Hawks spent the remainder of the 2nd half in Brighton's D, desperately trying to get the ball past the keeper. A number of penalty corners were awarded but unfortunately, Hawks weren't able to score a 3rd goal to get a share of the points.
A disappointing result but the Ladies 2s are really looking forward to bouncing back next weekend when they play Eastcote.
