Ladies 4s raise their game against strong Slough 2s

15 November 2014, 10:30, Banbury Road North (Near)

Ladies' 4s 3 - 4 Slough Ladies 2s

This Saturday the ladies 4's played Slough ladies 2's at home. It was perfect weather for hockey and the team were fired up for what was going to be a tough battle. Inside information revealed slough were playing 3 possible national league players........
The first 10 mins it was apparent Hawks  were intimidated by the strength of the Slough team.  Slough's number 12 opened the scoring after just 4 mins. Our heads went down but a quick tactical move put April in charge of man to man marking their strongest player. Relentless fighting up front and after some goal opportunities we eventually won a flick converted by Kim Williams.
They quickly counter attacked with a reverse stick hit, again by their skillful number 12. We were now down again 2-1. This was quickly  followed by another solid goal from Slough making it 3-1. Hawks pulled one back with a strong attack down the right by Rebecca Black who passed it to Sophie Bennett who slipped it to Kim. She swept it strongly towards goal and it took a deflection off one of the slough defence- GOAL!
This lifted the Hawks spirits. Half time and it was 4-2. A good talking too by Catherine and Vicky Martin sent us into the second half confident and ready to try and pull this back.
Hawks got a short corner 25 mins into the second half. A quick one two between Kim and Sophie saw Kim sweep it strongly into the goal!
In the last ten minutes Hawks had the  most possession and a number if strong attacks and near misses. We were unlucky not to make it a draw but overall a good game and solid performance.

A very enjoyable match helped by the excellent umpiring of Adrian Higgins and Tim Spittles who controlled some, at times, feisty players superbly.

Thanks to Caroline for the fantastic brownies and delicious vegan cake.
