Mrs Thatcher was in charge of the country, YMCA was number one, Liverpool won the division 1 title......and Caroline Baggs scored a goal for Hawks......
So was the follow up worth the TWENTY FIVE YEAR wait? Yes. A grey Saturday lunchtime saw Oxford Hawks ladies 4s away at Gerrards Cross.
A steady beginning saw some good link up play, and on a slow sandy bumpy pitch things were slowly starting to gel....until all changed when Caroline glided into the D from an inside left position.
A missile was subsequently let loose from that new stick -bouncing of the backboard before the goalkeeper had time to blink......
Buoyed by this moment of class, Hawks started to dictate. Strong runs by both inners led to sustained attacks.
From one of the resulting short corners, Catherine's pass was turned in by injector Gabs.
The opposition rallied somewhat in the second half but eventually a scrambled third goal, the result of some committed teamplay from another short corner peppering the defence, settled the score
MoM- who else? Majestic, unflappable, totally committed team player, Caroline Baggs.
Many thanks to Rory Bowden for travelling with us and as always providing excellent umpiring.
