The ladies 1’s had an early start in order to get to Swansea, but they made it on time considering they had to factor in a number of caffeine stops along the way.
After a great warm up Hawks started the match well gaining lots of possession in the opening minutes, but a strong Swansea back line made it tough for the forwards to gain anything from this. Swansea then has some possession and pressure of their own but much like the Swansea back line Hawks made it just as tough for them and stood strong. After and unfortunate card for Hawks Swansea broke down the left and along the baseline. The initial shot was saved but a Swansea forward pounced on the ball and put it in the back of the goal making the score 1-0. Some more excellent play by the Hawks defence and midfielders made sure the score remained 1-0 at half time.
The second half continued in the same way as the first, with both teams having possession but neither team giving much away. Some attacking play down the right by Swansea mid way through the half resulted in them being awarded a penalty stroke after a tackle in the D was deemed rash. The Swansea player converted the stroke to make the score 2-0. Unwilling to settle for the loss Hawks piled on the pressure with some excellent link up play between the midfielders and forward line. This pressure resulted in a number of short corners but Hawks were unable to convert. The final whistle went and the score remained 2-0.
Despite the loss there were a lot of positives and Hawks are now looking forward to a week off and to get ready for their next match against Isca.
