Falcons downs Epsom to continue winning start to season

18 October 2014, 13:00, Banbury Road North (Near)

Falcons 6 - 2 Epsom Vagabonds

Epsom turned up at BRN with only 10 men. Thanks goes to Mike Kentfield who volunteered to swap sides to even the odds.
Hawks started well and, as in recent fixtures, dominated proceedings, finally engineering a goalscoring opportunity which was well dispatched by Russ Warner. Although Epsom had been restricted to odd breaks against the run-of-play they managed to draw level within five minutes. But from the restart the Falcons scored the best goal of the game when a clinical five-pass move was steered past the Epsom keeper by Steve Griffiths. Griffiths added his second from close range shortly after.
Hawks continued their control in the second half but were once again guilty of causing themselves frustration, with periods of good hockey interspersed with spells of wasted possession and lack-lustre passing. Hawks increased their lead after forcing a number of short corners when Simon Smith shot cleanly inside the post. Griffiths scored his third with another close range effort. The elusive Epsom centre-forward continued to menace the Hawks' defence on the break and managed to score a second, before Roper stretched to prod home for Hawks' sixth.
