Men's 4s ease past Amersham and Chalfont 6-0

18 October 2014, 13:30, Banbury Road North (Top)

Men's 4s 6 - 0 Amersham & Chalfont Men's 2s

We welcomed Amersham and Chalfont to BRN and played our best hockey of the season to win 6-0. Lawrence in goal touched the ball once from a back pass as we kept A&C relatively quiet as an attacking unit. Brett Morrison started his first game for us and he nearly scored with his first touch, a neat deflection around the keeper. Louis Yates proved a useful loan signing, netting a hat trick of strikes and managing to win a stroke and then miss it. More about strokes later.... Our positional play and leads were much improved this week and Gary Mahon produced a man of the match display in the middle of the park. Tim Martin controlled things from the back, not missing a tackle and distributing the ball with aplomb. Duncan Buckmaster provided great leadership on the pitch, at the back and in the middle. Both our young guns Charlie and Robbie had their best games of the season with Robbie unlucky not to score, being denied by their keeper twice. We managed to score with our first two short corners which proves that practice does count and somehow in all this I managed to deflect in two. Rob Manson added a poachers goal after Tim's dribble and lay off. So to the last play of the game, a short corner and somehow from 5 yards with one man to beat I managed to stick it onto a foot when scoring was would have been easier. Having been persuaded to take the stroke I was dreaming of a hat trick from left back and that was all it was - a dream. For the second time in the game we hit the post from the spot. So now we need to practice strokes, although Gary did inform me afterwards that he used to take them for Bournville in the National League (in the dark ages admittedly) and never missed one. So over to you Gary for the next one......

Thanks to Hutts and Dave Dawes for umpiring.
