The ladies 2’s knew from the off Surbiton would be a tough game. And within the opening few minutes Surbiton has scored. A cross into the D found an unmarked player at the back post for a tap in. Hawks then has some pressure of their own but were unable to capitalise on any chances they created in and around the D. Surbiton then doubled their lead with another ball finding its way to an unmarked player on the penalty spot, who calmly put the ball pass Linda. With half time approaching it looked like Hawks would find themselves 2-0 down but a lovely cross into the D from Anna found Emily who deflected the ball into the roof of the net.

Hawks started the second half well with the advice from Andy and Sue Clark fresh in the minds of the players. Some good link up play between the defence, midfield and forwards meant Hawks created some chances but were unable to convert. The match then changed hands frequently with both teams unable to keep possession. Surbiton had a number of short corners but a strong defensive line of Nicky, Laura, Sally, Georgia and Linda kept the score at 2-1. With both teams looking to score the next goal Hawks had a break up the right of the pitch, with Sam, Kara and Helen all linking well to get the ball into the D. Claire then on her back foot hit the ball past the goalkeeper to level the score. With both teams now looking for the win the strength of Surbiton began to show and in the final 5 minutes managed to score 2 goals earning them the win.

Despite the 4-2 loss there were lots of positives to come out of the game and the 2’s are looking forward to next week and getting back to winning ways and earning 3 points.
