After a bruising 7-2 defeat last week away to Newbury & Thatcham, Hawks Men's 3s went into this game in the belief that with 15 players available, their first home game this season could result in their first victory.
Bolstered by the appearance of Paul Poulter, Sean Maclachlan, James Ward, Mark Crowley and Simon Dawson, Hawks were confident that a win could be achieved, however things didn't go to plan when within the first 10 minutes Aylesbury 1s were 2-0 up. This deficit was reduced to 2-1 after a fine individual performance from Mark Crowley down the left side of the pitch slotting the ball home at a very acute angle. Neil Gallacher then made the score 2-2 at half time.
Going into the second half, Hawks 3's extended their lead to 4-2 through goals from Jamie Clark and Simon Dawson and the Hawks felt that the scoreline could be further extended after Newbury had a player sin-binned for a dangerous tackle. However, Newbury battled on and scored another goal with 2 minutes to go to bring the score to 4-3. A nervous remaining 2 minutes ensued but Hawks 3's managed to hold on to their inaugural victory this season.
