The Ladies 2s were really exited to start the new season and were looking forward to a new challenge, after all their hard work in previous seasons.
Hawks travelled to London to play Eastcote and started off really well. A number of new players have joined the 2s over the summer but the connections and passing worked really from the onset.
Early on in the game, Kike Lawal caused a lot of hassle for the Eastcote defence due to her very speedy ways and her great variety of skills. However, it was the opposition who scored first. Hawks responded immediately with Megan Jones making a great lead from defence into the D, to first time the ball past the Eastcote keeper.
Sam Hodges used her great speed to get past a number of Eastcote players and cut the ball across the baseline, which resulted in a penalty corner. Abi Flory converted this chance with a great straight strike past the keeper, making the score 2-1.
After half time. Eastcote showed how much they wanted it by immediately getting the ball into Hawks D. They scored the equaliser early on in the 2nd half and Hawks realised that they were going to have to work even harder. However it was the opposition who took the next chance scoring a 3rd goal which was disallowed by the umpires.
Hawks kept the pressure on the Eastcote defence and were rewarded with another penalty corner. Man of the match, Abi Flory stepped up to take this short corner and repeated what happened in the first half, firing the ball past the keeper.
Hawks worked tirelessly until the final whistle and kept on creating a number of chances, they were unlucky not to convert more but the Eastcote keeper made a number of good saves. Although Hawks finished the game without knowing what the final score was, they were happy to find out they had won 3-2!
