The Ladies 3s played their second league match of the season at home against local rivals Oxford Hockey Club.
Despite a slow start, birthday girl Lizzie Siese scored the opening goal via a cross from Emily Wilkins in a goalmouth scramble. The first half saw some excellent build up play from Emma Hunter, Mel Carrier and Kim Williams. After lots of short corner practice earlier in the week, we managed to convert before half time. A 1, 2 short corner routine was 'tactically' left by Kim for Lizzie to neatly pass across the goal for Bonnie to slot away on the post.
An excellent team talk at half time by Nathan really focused the 3s into goal-hungry action.
2-0 at half time quickly turned into 3-0 in another short corner conversion in the second half. The ball was injected to Lizzie whose excellent strike was converted into the net by Wilko. Emma Hunter then scored a fantastic goal with a strike at the top of the D that was neatly popped into the top left hand corner, hitting the underside of the cross bar and landing across the line. Oxford were still keeping the pressure up, and with a goal save on the line by Jacqui Barlow the team were still raring for more. A goal in quick succession was created by Katie Merrick strongly carrying the ball into the circle, who tapped the ball to Lizzie who managed to pass to Bonnie while committing the goalkeeper which meant Bonnie could cleanly slot the ball into the goal. A smooth team goal followed, with Lizzie striking the ball to Wilko who passed it under her shoulder to Becca who’s attempt was deflected into the goal by Rosie. The fifth goal in an intense 35 minutes was by Wilko who hit the backboard in open play.
Man of the match went to a well-deserved Katie Merrick for her unflappable distributing in the centre of the pitch.
