Ladies 4s triumph over local rival Oxford 4s

13 September 2014, 10:30, Headington School

Ladies' 4s 3 - 0 Oxford Ladies 4s

The newly promoted Ladies 4s played Oxford 4s in their final friendly before the league starts next week. Oxford 4s are in the same division so it was a good chance to gage the standard of opposition in Division 1. The 4s has a lot of familiar faces along with a good amount of new players and so it took a while for us to start to play as a team. For the first 15 minutes we sat back and let Oxford dictate play. There was no real threat from them and we gradually started to gain confidence and use our wide players more. We were rewarded half way through the first half with a goal from Rebecca Black. This was soon followed by a second by Emma M. The end of the first half saw some nice transfers of play through Catherine in the middle, creating further chances but without increasing our lead.
The second half continued much the same. Oxford were more threatening but the full backs of April, Dizzy and Caroline contained them well. The 4s final goal came from some very persistent play in the D by Sarah, and Rebecca just getting the final touch on it. It remained 3-0 as we were unable to convert a number of short corners.
Alex saved Oxford’s only real chance late in the second half to keep a clean sheet.
All in all very promising for the new league season.
MOM went to Emma M for her tireless runs and of course her goal.
