Ladies’ 6s would like to thank Jan Davies who persuaded her husband to drive to Exeter on Friday night to fetch Megan from Uni just so that they both could play in this our final match.

The team took a little time to settle and in that time Bicester scored the first goal.  However the defence rallied and kept them out for the rest of the half.  Jan had an excellent game with some strong tackles at left back.  Becky started on the back line giving good direction to the rest of the team.  Just before half time we got one back with an excellent shot from Katie Cannon playing centre half.

In the second half we continued to press with most of the action being in Bicester’s half.  Jess Richmond had an excellent game as right half and Mel Thurley was in on the attack as left half.  We won a short corner and when Katie received the ball she shot it neatly in the net.  We were 2-1 up.

Jessica M-W played a skilful left inner easily beating several of their players each time. It was great having Megan playing right inner.  She worked very hard coming right back to collect the ball and attack as well.  We also had great strength in Olivia as right wing who was running tirelessly and dodging skilfully.  In fact, we tended to use the strength of the right more than we should as Pam was often free on the left wing.  She had some lovely touches and did some very sympathetic passes.  Mary also played very well and was unlucky not to score but many of her shots were from near the baseline where the able is very acute.

We won another short corner and Katie stepped up to receive the ball and slot it in the net.  We were 3-1 up.  Then in a short corner in our circle there was a scrap in front of the goal where the ball rose up and hit Jan gently on the chest.  The umpire awarded a penalty flick which Purdy confidently cleared.

There was another short corner at their end and again Katie scored.  (It is a pity it is not fantasy league because a defender gets lots of points for scoring a hat-trick.)  Then in the dying minutes of the game they attacked again.  Purdy got to it but it still trickled over the line.  So the final score was 4-2.

Olivia was voted player of the match for her skill, energy and enthusiasm.  Jan presented Deborah with a card and a present for running the team.  Thank you everyone!

And thank you to James for taking the photos.
